Konjo café

Konjo cafe is an Ethiopian restaurant based in Footscray (Australia). It's a genuine family business serving authentic Ethiopian food which attracts people worldwide. You can smell the delicious aromas of spices and food when you approach the restaurant. Groups of guests can either share a plate and eat with their hands or order individual dishes. Konjo also offers traditional Ethiopian coffee called Jebana.

I helped define Konjo Cafe's branding and designed the site to give a sneak peek of the Cafe's ambience and experience. The site lets people explore the menu, book a table and connect through social media.

Built a website for a restaurant with Webflow

Overview

Problems
  • The menu was not available online which was one of the main issues for customers
  • The content was mostly irrelevant and misplaced
  • The website was not responsive
  • Updating the website by the owners was very difficult
Goals
    • Make the website mobile friendly and responsive
    • Revamp the website to look modern and attractive
    • Give customers easy access to the menu and enable booking
    • Clearly expose address and contact details
    • Allow owners to update content easily

      Branding

I designed Konjo Cafe's menu incorporating its logo and the look and feel of the website. I chose a black and orange palette for its warmth, energy and its contrast.

      Mobile friendly

The site is fully responsive, easy to navigate, presents information clearly.
It's now possible to book a table.

      Conclusion

The new Konjo website was launched in July 2020. It has been well received by the clients and helped increase the number of bookings. To help Konjo Cafe adapt to covid-19 restrictions, I will design takeaway food packaging and a new ordering system.

I accepted this project to take the opportunity to learn a new tol - Webflow. It is really powerful and flexible.
It has been a steep learning curve, but I enjoyed designing and being fully independent once I got the hang of it. Responsive design has been the most complicated aspect of this project. It helped me appreciate the constraints of mobile-first design and value simplicity.
